Weight Loss Journey

I was always a stress eater and between being lived in different country away from parents, siblings, friends and grieving not having a baby, I had plenty of difficult emotions to deal with. On the top of all these problems, my unhappiness was growing up when I saw pounds adding up in my body. I decided to loss weight when I noticed myself unhappy, tired. I fed up with unhealthy lifestyle and had no idea how many calories I was consuming. This was the starting point of my weight loss journey. No one in my life knew about what was happening overall those years. I needed things to keep me busy, but I also tried to utilize my time with things I really wanted.

Going through this time, fought myself, did a lot of internet research. I decided to take that part of my life and make it a positive one even though it was a painful. Finally came up with solution to keep myself happy, fit and social as it was not one thing just that made my mind towards losing weight and join fitness center.

I joined gym 20-minute walk from home and started going to fitness classes regularly. It was so hard and difficult to start exercising but I was determined. The 15 minutes workout was a mix of things like machines and cardio and just did few minutes of yoga. After few weeks I became used to Zumba, yoga and indoor cycling. Some workouts were hard to do at first but it didn’t stop me from trying.

After a few days, I started seeing a lot of progress in myself and my body started to get toned. I managed to loss 21 pounds in the first month, which gave me the motivation to tightened up my diet also. I stopped having meals while working, watching TV or chatting on the phone and started tracking my meals and would count and recount repeatedly and food choices were completely changed. Started setting smaller goals, like giving up fast food. I cut out burgers means all kind of fast food, closed my eyes in front of processed snacks, fries and ate a balanced diet centered on protein, fruits, nuts, and whole grains. Breakfast became oatmeal and grilled chicken with roasted veggies in lunch.

Be Somebody Nobody Thought You Could Be

I would run at least 4 miles, 4 days a week meanwhile had my headphones with my favorite music in my ears. Every time exercise made me feel better and I felt more fresh and energetic. I started liking the workouts as they were fun and enjoyable.

Within six months, I dropped 70 pounds, reduced my body fat from 31 to 17 percent and increased strength. I get back into shape, but it took a ton of hard work.

I am super proud of my journey over the last two years. It’s my story to tell. I feel more in control of my life and stress less.  Sometimes I can eat as I can’t resist myself in front of my mother cooked food whenever we go for vacations to my home country because I’m hungrier than I used to be. I feel super proud that I took a painful time of my life and started this new healthy habit.
